Colour. So darn fun, yet my sources (mainly my friends and people on the internet) tell me that it can be a tricky thing to get around when it comes to your wardrobe. Are you wearing the right colour for your tone, does the colour go with other colours, what on earth does monochrome mean, who's spinning the colour wheel????
It's ok! I get it. Colour can be overwhelming, but never fear, I'm here to help you step into the world of colour in a way that might make things a bit easier for you. These are my tips and tricks for introducing colour into your wardrobe.
Tip 1 - Go small, don't go home!
Colour does not have to be an all or nothing game. You can introduce colour in a low risk way through your accessories and shoes. Grab a bright red handbag, or some green statement earrings, throw on a blue scarf (not necessarily all together) and you can add some real interest to your outfit without feeling like you need to go head to toe!
Tip 2 - Listen to the crowd!
Not sure what colour to wear, cast your mind back to what others have said to you. Do you get compliments every time you wear a particular colour? Or colours? Maybe they have something in common. Tans, rusts, browns, mustards (warm colours).Navy, hot pink, crisp whites (cool tones). Jewel tones or pastels? Pay attention to what people are saying and you will build some insights into the colours you might want to wear more of.
Tip 3 - It's in your blood.
Ok, that's a bit weird. What I mean to say is when it comes to what colours suit you best there is a quick way to tel! The secret to knowing if you might look better in warm or cool tones is by looking at your veins. Check your wrist in natural light and see if they look more green, or blue. Green means warm colours are more likely to suit you (mentioned some of them above - think orange and yellow undertones, mustards, burnt reds and or khaki/olive, cream/off white). Blue means cool colours are more likely to be your thing (think blue undertones, crimson red, hot pink, navy blue, berry tones, emerald green).
Tip 4 - If it makes you happy....it can't be that bad!
There are lots of confusing rules around colours and do's and don'ts. You can follow them all, but at the end of the day if there is a colour you love to wear JUST WEAR IT! Nothing looks better on you than things that make you feel confident and full of joy - if you love it, then chuck the rule book out and go with your flow!
Happy Styling x
